What’s in a name: why flow?

In psychology and sports psychology, a flow state is also known as “being in the zone”.

It refers to the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. 

  • Flow improves happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction. 
  • Flow is correlated with increased performance, higher motivation and engagement, and positive mood. 
  • Flow is associated with loyalty.
